What's In Your Wallet?

Rummaging through boxes of old stuff I found part of one of my old wallets, too bad there was none of the green stuff! Here's who I carried close to me:

Hank, one of the two people who ran 20th Century Books here in Madison. I used to go there every week when they operated downtown off the capitol square. I kept his picture, which I clipped out of the local whiny newspaper, the Isthmus (which always seemed to run stories about the misfortunes of the independent booksellers and featured interviews with Hank, who I guess, was the only expert on the matter) in my wallet in hopes that he would see it when I paid for my comics and give me a discount. Never worked. Anyway, I wish I could have also had a picture of Deb, his girlfriend or wife or whatever she was to him. She was an overweight fantasy, sci-fi fan stuck in 1974. Loved her blue eyeshadow and the sensibly bookish ponytail. She also liked a certain blue sweater that was pretty much her life-uniform. I'm not sure how they ever ran their business profitably. They seemed to stare down any possible customer, as if that person might shoplift or something. I weathered the stares to become one of their weekly faves. They had great deals on back-issues (usually, cover price when the comic was new!!!).

Janet Pyeatt!!! She was the Channel 3 weatherlady for awhile. I remember how she would shake for awhile after she first started. Her body would tremble during her report, her nerves were being shot right there on camera, live in front of everyone! I admired her for not being some phoney-camera smile. She was human!

Wonder Woman! Also some fortune-cookie advice!
